Welcome to Noosa Creative Alliance

The Noosa Creative Alliance which is a partnership between Stockwells Noosa Civic Business Park, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and supported by the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry was launched on October 11 2007 to engage the Noosa community to facilitate a campaign for economic development based on attracting and retaining members of the “creative class” to the Noosa region.

As part of the Creative Alliance well known academic Richard Florida was engaged to visit Noosa in November 2007 and present his vision to the Noosa Community in what was an Australia-first event. In discussing his thoughts for Noosa, Florida said …. “we really see the potential for Noosa to be a model for the world by fostering sustainability, self expression and economic prosperity for all walks of life.”

Florida’s Creative Class Theory

Florida’s studies have shown that people are the key economic growth assets and that cities and regions can no longer compete simply by attracting companies or by developing big ticket venues like sports stadiums.

In order for a community to truly prosper, Florida believes they must tap and harness the full creative potential of all people, basing their strategies on a comprehensive blend called the “4T’s of economic development”.

These are:

T1 Technology

the latest in IT capabilities, readily available through existing and evolving infrastructure

T2 Talent

the Human Capital

T3 Tolerance

An open, accepting and diverse society (including diversity and acceptance of sexuality, ethnicity and age)

T4 Territorial Assets

A quality, desirable and protected environment (smart growth) and attractive public amenities – nightlife, walkways, waterways, outdoor activities and cultural venues, including restaurants and a vibrant music scene.
